DCFII der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg

Founded in 1743, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen Nuremberg (FAU) has a rich history. As one of the top universities in Europa, FAU has almost 40 000 students, over 576 professors and more than 500 partnerships with universities all over the world.

According to recently published QS World University Rankings 2018, FAU is ranked as the academic institution that has produced the most widely cited publications in Germany. In Reuters latest ranking of Europes most innovative universities, FAU is ranked at number 6 and remains at second place among German universities

Development Path of DCFII

2007 - 2011

In order to retain an competitive position on an international scale and meet the challenges of the future, the Senate voted on 7 February 2007 to carry out a comprehensive reform of the University's structure.

Accordingly, in the winter semester 2007/08, the eleven faculties were reorganised into the five faculties which the University has today.

These faculties are sub-divided into departments with internal structures which are designed to strengthen existing collaborations and create possibilities for new ones.

2011 - April. 2015

Professor Hornegger became Chair of Pattern Recognition at the Faculty of Engineering and a secondary member of the Faculty of Medicine at FAU in 2005. He was Vice Dean of Computer Science from 2009 to 2011. Professor Hornegger was a Vice President of FAU and part of the Executive Board from 2011 to 2015. In this capacity he was responsible for research and young researchers.

Professor Hornegger officialy took up the position of the President of FAU since 1 April 2015.

April. 2015 - April. 2016

Under the strong support and guidance of the principal, preparatory work of DCFII is gradually ready and completed. As an important milestone on the road of internationalization, the planning and layout of the DCFII is meticulous, careful, thorough, and even harsh.

Only the professors and researchers with the most strategic vision and international perspective are chosen as the first batch of cores of DCFII. The responsibility of them is to carry FAU to a world-class top university.

April.2016 - December. 2016

After preparatory of years, DCFII was officially announced at the first anniversary of Professor Hornnegger being the president of FAU?in a sunny morning on 9:00, April 1, 2016. The inauguration ceremony and the First General Assembly was held at the main building of the FAU (Schloss Erlangen, Schlossplatz 4, 91058 Erlangen) . In the same year, DCFII completed the registration in the German Federal Court, with location at Martensstrasee 7, 91058-Erlangen. The establishment of DCFII has aroused the coverage of the local media and drawn high attention of local government.

Under the leadership of president of DCFII, Prof. Fink's and the president of FAU, Prof. Hornneger, DCFII achieved impressive results even in the first year after its establishment: - Joint research with a number of German institutions, DFG scientific research, the implementation of the scale of scientific research projects more than one million euros; - Participated in several academic conferences; - Received a number of academical delegations from Chinese universities and held consultations on relevant areas and future cooperation plans; - Signed a framework agreement on friendship and cooperation with a number of Chinese universities, enterprises and government agencies, formulated relevant agreements on further cooperation plans; - Gain partners from Europe and other continents, including but not limited to: China, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico and so on.
